College Football Betting- 4 Top Offseason Exercises

The college football season will be here in two months. It won’t be long! Here are four things I think every bettor should do early in the offseason. Handicap the coaching changes- I don’t think there is a sport where the head coach is more important than college football. You have to have a good leader and someone who is great at getting the best assistants to help them in the wild west that is college football today. Every single year we see big turnarounds and teams that drop off hard. There’s nothing more important than evaluating the coaching staff. Look for tempo changes- If you are betting totals in college football like I love to do, then looking for tempo changes should be high on your list of things to do in the offseason. Here we are looking for offensive coordinators that have a completely different scheme and game plan than the OC did the previous season. Nearly everyone says they want to play fast, but who will really be committed to that faster pace? Maybe a team is looking to hide their weakness on defense so they are going to run the football and use up the clock. Looking for clues on these tempo and scheme changes is crucial. Transfer Portal- I’ll admit the transfer portal is overwhelming, but there is no choice but to try to navigate through the madness that is the portal. Even the coaches who didn’t really want to be heavily involved in the portal now realize they have no choice. Which teams were able to fill their biggest needs? Which teams look thin because of too many guys from the same position area left? The depth of the roster is important to consider. Look for Potential Matchup Advantages/Disadvantages- This is where you’ll handicap individual teams to see who they matchup well against which teams could be difficult matchups for them. For example, you might find a team who is great at running the football, but if they are forced to throw against an elite defensive front they are going to struggle badly. You also might find a service academy type defense where they can battle in the trenches, but they are likely to struggle when teams open it up and throw it around on them. Highlight certain matchups as potential bet on or against spots.

5 CFB Teams With Tough Schedules in 2026/2027

Ohio State Buckeyes- The Buckeyes have taken some heat for weaker schedules in the last few years, but this schedule could be the toughest in the country in 2026/2027. Ohio State plays at Texas on 9/12. They have a tricky game at Iowa on 10/3. They go to Bloomington to play the defending champs on 10/17. The Buckeyes travel to USC on Halloween. They host both Oregon and Michigan in November. Ohio State lost a lot of high end talent, and they are up against with a very tough schedule this year. It should still be a strong season, but they aren’t going to run through this regular season without any losses. Miss State Bulldogs- Mississippi State has been getting some better talent, and I do feel they are making progress as a program. It is going to be tough to see it in the win/loss column this year though. The  Bulldogs play a tricky non-conference game at Minnesota. They have a brutal October four game stretch of games vs. Alabama, at LSU, vs. Oklahoma, and at Texas. The Auburn game at home in November will be a tough one too. The season finale in the Egg Bowl at Ole Miss is one where they’ll be a clear underdog. Nebraska Cornhuskers- The Nebraska Cornhuskers keep looking for that huge turnaround season. Matt Rhule is absolutely improving this program, but expectations are always high at Nebraska and they have a new quarterback under center for this year. The non-conference schedule isn’t bad, but when they hit Big Ten play things get very tough. Nebraska hosts Indiana before traveling to Oregon the following week. The Cornhuskers have a brutal November. They travel to Illinois and then host Ohio State and Iowa to finish off the season. A very tough schedule. N Carolina Tar Heels- The Tar Heels start on the road at TCU. Notre Dame comes to Chapel Hill in early October. They go to play Pitt and Duke on the road. The Halloween game at home against Miami is one where they’ll be a massive underdog. The November game at Virginia is a tough one. With the lack of an offense, it could be tough to find many wins here. Oklahoma Sooners- The Sooners have had some tough schedules in recent seasons, and they find themselves up against it schedule wise again this year. Oklahoma goes to both Michigan and Georgia in September. The 10/10 showdown against Texas will be a fantastic game. Road games at Florida and at Missouri in November could be very tricky. In between those they play two at home against Ole Miss and Texas A&M. A loaded up schedule early and late for Oklahoma.

World Cup 2026: What's Happened So Far

Two weeks into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, there's been blowout wins, upsets, outrageous saves & stellar finishes. This has always been the tournament that has brought people from around the world together. & Now, with 48 teams making it in this edition, even more fans are able to cheer for their respective country, perhaps bringing even more attention from non-soccer (European football) viewers. Let's take a look at what's happened so far.  Most Impressive Teams So Far:  GermanyStarting out strong with one of the pre-tournament favorites, Germany has looked fantastic so far. Against Curacao in the opening fixture people anticipated an easy win. But, Germany one-upped that by scoring seven goals with ease in that contest. No, the 2014 WCup champs don't have a clear/dominant forward up top like some of the other top nations. But, Kai Havertz has been very solid & Deniz Undav has come to life after having a stellar year at Stuttgart prior to this tournament. Having already clinched to spot in the group, I expect Germany to be a very tough out as the knockout rounds approach. Morocco After making the Semi-Final back in 2022, there was a bit of anticipation for the Moroccans to match that performance this time around. Now, there's still a long ways to go. But, claiming seven points in a group with Brazil in it is an excellent start. Ismael Saibari has been a focal point in the offense. But, it's been a whole team performance, with subs getting in on the action against Haiti as well. Talking about that game, Morocco had to face some adversity by coming back from a goal down on two occasions. It ultimately won that game 4-2. Heading into the Rof32 with an expected game against Netherlands or Japan, whoever comes out of that game could go a long ways in this tournament. United StatesAs a Canadian, it's sometimes hard to give our "sporting rival" any praise. That being said, I must give credit where credit is due & the American's have sure showed up so far in the World Cup. USA has already clinched Group C, with not much to play for other than giving starters some rest in the final group stage game. I'm not going to say that the United States are battle tested quite yet as I believe that its group is quite poor. But, the start is something that American fans should be excited about & it definitely could make some noise if the matchups aren't extremely difficult early in the KO round. ColombiaOne of my favorite teams of the tournament so far has definitely been Colombia. No, the offense hasn't necessarily clicked yet. But, the defensive work has been fabulous, especially against the Congo. Up top, Luis Suarez & Luis Diaz are an electric duo. James Rodriguez, who's getting up there in age, still mans the midfield with great composure and playmaking skills. Colombia currently leads Group K & a draw against Portugal would secure top spot in the group. But, even if that doesn't happen, I'm very excited to see how far this Colombian team can go in this World Cup.  Golden Boot Race:  Currently leading the way with five goals is Argentina's generational superstar Lionel Messi. In my eyes, there's no debate that he's the greatest player of all time. He's only just adding to the greatness with these performances at this World Cup. Not far behind though with four goals are elite scorers Erling Haaland & Kylian Mbappe & Vinicius Jr. Cristiano Ronaldo also got on the board with a pair of goals in his most recent outing. But, the portuguese legend still has a lot of catching up to do. This could very well turn out to be the best WC Golden Boot race of all time.  WC 2026 FIFA Fantasy:  With an estimated 2-3 million users worldwide, winning the FIFA Fantasy of the 2026 World Cup is nearly impossible. Obviously, that's a 1/2-3 million chance. That being said, through the second match-week, I was ranked inside the top 100 in the world, while being ranked as the #1 user in Canada. It's Only 60 Days Until College Football

I was about ready to write this article when a text came across and alerted me that it was 60 days until college football. If you are like me then you probably try to make time pass by devouring all of the information you can dig about your NCAA teams and the major conferences. That’s a good thing for sports bettors to be doing with their time, but when they do so there are some serious and potentially costly mistakes that they can make. Just last week, Texas Tech lost their quarterback to gambling. Things can change that fast.  Believing the hype about freshmen – The media doesn’t have a lot to talk about during the summer, so they have to find stories. One of the easiest stories for them to write is about the flashy new college freshmen who are about to make their debuts. One that comes to mind is Archie Manning a few years ago with all his hype. The elite freshman are very impressive players who have been tearing apart competition and wowing scouts for years. They are also taking a massive step up in class. Now they have to put far more time into football than ever before, they have to live away from home for the first time, they have to learn a very tough playbook, and they are suddenly playing against a much higher level of competition. Some football players shine under that pressure, others take a while to adjust but are eventually fine, and some just never make it. Let a freshman show you what he can do on the field – or at least where he can land on the depth chart at the start of the season – before you get too excited about the prospects of his arrival. Buying too strongly into new coaches – If a new college coach hits the ground running he can build a whole lot of momentum between January and September. If he recruits well, says the right things, and rebuilds relationships with the media and alumni that were lost under the old coach then it can seem like he is the king of the world. You have to stop yourself from getting too excited, though, before he has even coached a game. Consider that a large number of previous players return to their next season. The new coach has a slew of new problems. He has a new playbook for the veterans. He has new coaches. He has his new surroundings and a new place to move his family. How will he perform under game pressure? Can he work with his new coaching staff? Does he have the players that suit his system? How well can he teach that system? A new coach doesn’t deserve an ounce more respect than what he deserves from his performance on the field. Not using time to study other teams – If you are a committed fan of a team or a conference then you will spend the summer looking at that NCAA team from every possible angle as you await the start of the season. What a lot of college football bettors miss out on, though, is also looking at the teams that team will play. You know the schedule months in advance, so you might as well use the summer to get to know every team on the schedule of the teams you plan to bet on. I always at least break down one complete conference and get to know everything about every team.  My Checklist  Are there non-conference opponents from small conferences that could be dangerous, or are they totally outmatched? Which opponents are breaking in new personnel at key positions? Which ones have made changes to their coaching staff? Which ones perform particularly well on the road? Which ones won’t be intimidated by the stadium your team plays in, or the systems that they use? Turning your attention outward during the summer is a very profitable activity when it comes to college football handicapping. You might as well do it when there is nothing else to do so you can focus on other things when the season starts and things get really busy. Or build your bankroll betting baseball.

Fight Night: Fiziev vs Torres (UFC Baku) Preview and Picks

The UFC returns to Azerbaijan for the second time this weekend, taking place at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku. This marks the UFC's second visit to the country as part of a multi-year deal for annual "Fight Nights" through 2028. Last year's event was held at the Baku Crystal Hall. It included some interesting fights including Azerbaijani native Nazim Sadykhov vs. Nikolas Motta, which was the "fight of the night." Sadykhov scored a 2nd round TKO victory. Last year's main event featured former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jamahal Hill against former title challenger Khalil Rountree Junior. Rountree won by a decisive unanimous decision. The co-main event saw another Azerbaijan native Rafael Fiziev win 30-27 on all three judges' scorecards against Ignacio Bahamondes. Fiziev is back, this time in the main event against Manuel Torres. Sadykhov also returns. Let's take a closer look at what promises to be another exciting card. The Main Event: Rafael Fiziev -115 vs Manuel TorresEven factoring in his win here last year, the 33-year-old Fiziev (13-5) is just 1-4 in his past five fights. Still, those losses came against top-tier opponents including Justin Gaethje (twice), Mateusz Gamrot and Mauricio Ruffy. Fiziev is a former Muay Thai fighter who mixes in combat sambo, boxing, Jiu Jitsu, and wrestling. Torres (17-3) is a 31-year-old Mexican fighter. He's had back-to-back wins since losing to Bahamondes, the fighter whom Fiziev beat here last year. Torres, who also has a Muay Thai background, combines a strong striking game with sharp grappling skills.  The Pick: Under 1.5 Rounds +110. The pick'em line seems fair, as I see this fight as a legitimate coin flip. Torres has the more impressive record but Fiziev has faced better opponents and is fighting in his home country. I do see some value in the under 1.5 rounds, at +110. Fiziev was stopped in the second round of his last fight and 13 of Torres's last 14 fights (19 of 20 overall) finished in the first round. Play the Under.The Co-Main Event: Shara Magomedov -360 vs. Michel Pereira Shara "Bullet" Magomedov (16-1) is an exciting and dynamic middleweight striker from Dagestan. Blind in his right eye, Magomedov is known for spinning and creative attacks, high output, and relentless pressure. Michel Pereira (32-14), not related to Alex Pereira, hails from Brazil. Heading into Tuesday's one-game slate, the Minnesota Lynx and Las Vegas Aces were favored to win the WNBA title.At DraftKings, the odds were as follows: Minnesota and Las Vegas at +300, followed by the New York Liberty (+320), Atlanta Dream (+700), Dallas Wings (+1400) and Indiana Fever (+1400).After the Liberty walloped the Aces in Las Vegas, the teams switched places, as it's now New York and Minnesota favored to win it all, while the defending champs are now +320.The powerful three are once again proving they're the class of the league, and the road to a title rolls through Sin City, the Twin Cities or Gotham.But if you ask me, the team to invest in right now is the Lynx. Despite a few stumbling blocks, they've dominated since the start of the season behind two key elements surrounded by a rock-solid supporting cast.First, there's Rookie of the Year frontrunner Olivia Miles, who looks more like a fourth-year guard hitting her stride when humbling veterans on defense. Miles' quick first step or long-range jumper has her ranked in the top 12 in scoring at 18.5 points per game and tied for ninth in assists at 5.6 per contest.Second, veteran Natasha Howard was a key offseason acquisition, and she has fit splendidly into coach Cheryl Reeve's system. She's scoring 17.3 points and grabbing 7.4 rebounds per game. Her presence - and effectiveness - provides spacing for others, as she's drawing defensive attention away from the perimeter.And here's the thing, they're doing all of this without Napheesa Collier, easily one of the three best players in the world when she's 100 percent healthy. Recovering from surgery on both ankles, she should be back this season, and the odds on Minnesota will drop.Now is the time to invest in the Lynx.PROP WATCH OF THE WEEKDallas Wings forward JESSICA SHEPARD was the Western Conference Player of the Week after averaging 16.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.0 steals per contest the last three games. In the Wings' 96-66 win over the Aces on June 15, Shepard flirted with her third triple-double of the year, falling one assist shy with 15 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists. It was her third game of the season with at least 15 points and 15 rebounds. She'll be in Las Vegas for a return engagement in a critical game against the Aces.GAME OF THE WEEKSunday, June 28, 2 p.m. Eastern on CBS: Minnesota at Dallas -- The Lynx head to Big D after the Wings' game in Las Vegas, and it'll be interesting to see how the young guns respond after facing A'ja Wilson and company after their loss to the Liberty. Paige Bueckers has been impressive with big buckets recently, be it overcoming a double-digit deficit or helping to seal an overtime win. Las Vegas Aces - The Aces have been much better on the road, going 8-2 while ordering room service.4. Dallas Wings - If, and it's a very big IF, the Wings can beat the Aces for a second-straight meeting and then beat the Lynx, you have to consider this team as a top-three squad.6. Golden State Valkyries - If this team can find consistency, especially on the road, this is a sleeper to be wary of down the stretch.7. Los Angeles Sparks - They've gone on the road and won five of seven. They've come home and lost seven of nine. If they learn to win at home, they'll be dangerous.8. Washington Mystics - They've been a fantastic option when you least expect it, having covered nine of 15.9. Indiana Fever - The discord between Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White could be coming to a head. She doesn't fit in her system, but the rest of the team does. Who goes first?10. Portland Fire - The verdict is out on this team, still. They have impressive wins and questionable losses.11.
