Way-Too-Early NCAAF Predictions & Future Bets to Make:

by William Burns

Thursday, Jul 23, 2026

Football is right around the corner and it's never too early to start thinking about the upcoming campaign. After consecutive winning NCAAF seasons, I'm expecting even more greatness to take place this year  Here are my "Way-Too-Early NCAAF Predictions & Future Bets to Make:" for the 2026-27 season. What I Expect From Certain Teams This Season:  Alabama Crimson Tide (11-4 in 2025-26) After falling short of the playoff in 2024-25, Alabama responded by not only making it, but beating Oklahoma on the road in 2025-26 in it's first 12-team playoff game. This season, the Crimson Tide look to make even more headways with an elite secondary and an underrated offense. Keelon Russell, is likely to be the QB this season. He's a former 5-star recruit out of High School & considering what Ty Simpson was able to accomplish a year ago, I think that he could turn some heads this season. While I do believe that the Tide are slightly overlooked this season, don't be shocked if they have a similar record to last year here in '26/'27Projected Record in 2026-27 // 10-4.  Texas Longhorns (10-3 in 2025-26) The Longhorns didn't begin last season as they hoped for with a 3-2 record over there opening five games, one of those losses being against a 4-8 Florida team. Texas barely missed out on a playoff spot because of that, but finished the season with a 7-1 record over its final eight games for lots of confidence. This season, I do expect the Longhorns to get into the 12-team playoff. Playing in the SEC, it's obviously going to be a difficult path to get there. But, avoiding both Alabama & Georgia while getting Oklahoma/Ole Miss at home should most definitely help. Projected Record in 2026-27 // 11-3.  North Texas (12-2 in 2025-26) Last season, North Texas was among the top group-of-5 teams in College Football. With a 12-2 record on the season, the Mean Green were very close at reaching the CFP for the first time. That being said, they should see a drop off this season given that a lot of the top players from last year's team have either moved on or transferred to Oklahoma State with head coach Eric Morris (who made the move in the offseason.) I don't expect the Mean Green to reach rock bottom or anything. But, I do expect a rather average season from them this campaign. Projected Record in 2026-27 // 5-7.  South Carolina Gamecocks (4-8 in 2025-26) Last season, South Carolina had a heartbreak when LaNorris Sellers went down against Vanderbilt. Not having him for the end of that game didn't help SC whatsoever for the remainder of the year. While Sellers did play, he wasn't the same. He returns for another season in 2026-27 & I expect much better from the Gamecocks. However, like I said with the Texas Longhorns, playing an SEC schedule is never going to be easy. So, expect them to finish around the 5-to-7 win mark here this time around. Projected Record in 2026-27 // 6-6.  Virginia Tech Hokies (3-9 in 2025-26) With James Franklin taking over at Head Coach for this upcoming season, Virginia Tech should feel much more comfortable. I don't think it was fair for him to be let go by the Nittany Lions at all, considering his record for the program. But, with a fresh start here in the ACC that's much weaker than it has been, expect Virginia Tech to make some noise. It was a busy offseason for the Hokies who added Ethan Grunkemeyer/Luke Reynolds, both transfers from Penn State's team last year. Que'Sean Brown gives Grunkmeyer a big-time receiving threat as well. Considering the opening seven games for VT, expect at least a bowl game for the Hokies in Franklin's first year coaching, with a definite chance of making even more noise. Projected Record in 2026-27 // 8-4 . Burns' Top 10 Heisman Trophy Candidates Dante Moore (+1000)CJ Carr (+700)Arch Manning (+750)Gunnar Stockton (+1900)Julian Sayin (+1200)Marcell Reed (+2500)Jeremiah Smith (+1400)John Mateer (+2500)Sam Leavitt (+2000)Keelon Russell (+2800)Even though last season was a bit of a disappointment for Arch Manning, who was the pre-season favorite to win this award, he did finish the year very strong giving him a strong case to be in the conversation again. ND's CJ Carr is this year's favorite at the moment. While that could be a bit of a surprise to some, he's going to have elite players at every position around him making him as comfortable as any QB will be in the country this season. But, I'm going to go a different route. Dante Moore had a great year in 2025-26 & expects even better numbers this season. Oregon's got the 3rd best odds to win the National Championship at the moment & with Moore at the helm, there's no question that it could be a possibility. If you're looking for a guy with plenty of value down the line a bit, Marcell Reed/John Mateer both showed flashes of greatness, if you will, last season and should be poised for even bigger campaigns this time around.  Heisman Prediction: Dante Moore (+1000)Five Futures Bets to Make:  1. ) Oregon Ducks (+750 // To Win The National Championship)2. ) Dante Moore (+1000 // To Win The Heisman Trophy)  While I have some explaining to do here, picking two Oregon Futures. Firstly I picked Moore to win the Heisman in the previous section of this article & I believe that there's an amazing amount of value here with this one. He is one of the favorites to win this trophy this season and for good reasoning. Moore was expected to be a first round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, but decided to come back to school for another year. Coming off a season with 3,565 passing yards + 30 TD's through the air, he's only going to get better this season. With an elite receiving core, Oregon should be among the best teams in College Football this season. The Ducks also have one of the best DLine's & Secondary's in the country coming into the year. Each of those things should help solidify Moore as one of the best players, making him a perfect candidate for the Heisman Trophy in 2026 (as long as he doesn't get hurt.) 3. ) Arkansas Razorbacks (-156 // UNDER 2.5 SEC CONFERENCE WINS)  After going 0-8 inside the conference last season, I'm not expecting much once again from the Arkansas Razorbacks in 2026-27. Here's Arkansas' SEC schedule: UGA, @TAMU, TEN, @VAN, MIS, @AUB, SC, @TEX & LSU. Considering that schedule, I'd be shocked if the Razorbacks win more than two conference games this season. Missouri/South Carolina at home are the two most likely sources of wins. But, I don't expect both of those to happen, if any.  4.) Georgia Bulldogs (-180 // OVER 9.5 REGULAR SEASON WINS) Last season, Georgia finished with 11 regular season wins, losing just once to Alabama. With the difficult SEC schedule, it's always going to be tough to go undefeated. However, Kirby Smart has proven time and time again that his Bulldogs are always going to be among the best teams in College Football. Last year was the 5th consecutive year with 10+ regular season wins with the 2020 season being cut short due to Covid-19. I expect another season of greatness from Georgia, in the regular season & in the CFP.  5.) Notre Dame (+160 // OVER 11.5 REGULAR SEASON WINS) As my only wins o/u (totals) at plus money, I believe that this is one that YOU MUST BET before the odds move. Winning more than 11.5 games during the regular season means that a team must finish a perfect 12-0 in the regular season. Considering the roster, I believe that the Fighting Irish should be among the very best in the entire country. The schedule isn't exactly challenging either with it's toughest games against Wisconsin (4-8 in '25-'26,) @BYU (12-2 in '25-'26,) Miami (13-3 in '25-'26) & SMU (9-4 in '25-'26.) Those final two should be the hardest. But, at home in those games, give me Notre Dame to finish the regular season undefeated at this price.  Burns' Very Early National Title Game Prediction:  Oregon vs. Ohio State.30-23 Oregon.

Way-Too-Early NFL Predictions & Future Bets to Make:

by William Burns

Thursday, Jul 23, 2026

Preseason begins in two weeks (HOF Game on August 6th) and I'm expecting a monstrous NFL season here in 2026-27. Over the past few seasons, I've made a similar article to this one. Here's what to look for in this upcoming campaign:  Teams I Expect to Improve: Cincinnati Bengals (6-11 in 2025-26) -  The NFL is not always kind to the brightest stars in the league. Joe Burrow suffered a Grade 3 "turf toe" injury that had him sidelined for the majority of last season. That didn't help the Bengals cause whatsoever as he's a massive piece to what this team wants to accomplish. As he should definitely be back healthy and ready to go for Week 1 in this upcoming season, I believe that Cincinnati is going to make a massive leap in the AFC North standings and get back into the playoffs. Yes, there's still the question marks on the defensive side of the ball. However, with a strong offense, the Bengals are able to outscore their opponents when fully healthy.  Kansas City Chiefs (6-11 in 2025-26) -  Just like Cincinnati, Kansas City was forced to play a lot of 2025-26 without its starting Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs rely quite a bit on his ability to create things behind the line of scrimmage from his legs to his throwing abilities. This season, he's expected to be ready to go for week 1 and that should prove a massive boost to the "once" dynasty in the AFC of the NFL. Travis Kelce returns and the team's looking as dangerous as ever at the moment. I see the Chiefs making it right back into the postseason this season with a real chance of winning the Super Bowl with a 3-time champ leading the charge.  Detroit Lions (9-8 in 2025-26) -  9-8 isn't a horrible season. But, missing out on the playoffs with the roster that the Lions possess is going to be in the back of their heads for this entire season. Detroit's good enough to be one of the best teams in the NFC when on its game. Don't get me wrong, losing Ben Johnson (former OC) last year wasn't ideal. But, the coaching staff will be much more comfortable with HC Dan Campbell's systems this time around and the talent should show itself once again. Jahmyr Gibbs & Amon Ra St Brown should most definitely shine in this offense with Aidan Hutchinson, Jack Campbell & Brian Branch leading the way on defense.  Teams I Expect to Fall-Off:  Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7 in 2025-26) -  Winning the division in his final season in charge of the team capped off a legendary coaching career for Mike Tomlin. To never have a losing season in a 19-year tenure with the Steelers is simply remarkable. Will he ever return to coaching? Most likely yes. However, Mike McCarthy takes control of the Steelers for the upcoming season and I believe that Pittsburgh will drop off at least a bit. Aaron Rodgers does return for another season. However, the team is going to have to compete with much healthier Bengals/Ravens teams compared to a year ago & I expect the Browns to be a bit more competitive this time around. While the Steelers might have a similar season in terms of record, I don't expect them to be much of a threat if they are to make the postseason. I would say "no" to them making the playoffs right now though.  New England Patriots (14-3 in 2025-26) -  After making the Super Bowl last season, I am expecting a bit of a lesser season from the Patriots in 2026-27. New England took advantage of all of the injury problems that the rest of the AFC was having. That almost resulted in glory. However, the Pats ended up falling short in the big game against the Seahawks. Beginning the new year against the Seahawks on the road is not doing NE any favors either. This is a team that went out and added a big name receiver in AJ Brown for this upcoming season. However, I believe that the rest of the AFC will be coming for the Patriots all season long. I wouldn't be shocked if they still made the playoffs. But, don't expect New England to win 14+ games this time around.  Indianapolis Colts (8-9 in 2025-26) -  A couple of seasons ago, I was very high on the Colts in this division with Jacksonville, Houston & Tennessee. Instead, Jacksonville was the team to take the step forward, leaving Indianapolis in the dust a bit. Anthony Richardson hasn't performed up to expectations and Daniel Jones is still recovering from his torn achilles suffered towards the end of last year. While Jones is hoping to be ready to go for the opening game of the season, there's still doubt that the Colts can compete with two young & hungry defensive minded teams. The Titans will be looking to accomplish bigger and better things as well this season. I don't see Indi having a winning year in 2026-27 and therefore, the most likely outcome for this organization is a drop-off from last year.  Five Future Bets to Make:  Bijan Robinson // OVER 1174.5 Rushing Yards (-110) //. Brock Bowers // OVER 924.5 Receiving Yards (-110) //. Patrick Mahomes // To Win Comeback Player Of The Year (+185) //. Miami Dolphins // UNDER 4.5 Total Wins (-146) //. Los Angeles Rams // To Win The Super Bowl (+550) //.  Burns' Super Bowl Prediction:  It's definitely hard to predict things way in advance. Especially who's going to be in the Super Bowl. However, he's my VERY-EARLY SUPER BOWL PREDICTION: Los Angeles Rams def. Kansas City Chiefs (27-20).

CFL System of the Week!

by Al McMordie

Thursday, Jul 23, 2026

The CFL season is wrapping up its second month, and the Montreal Alouettes and Edmonton Elks are atop their respective divisions with 5-1 records.  Ottawa remains the lone winless team, at 0-6, while British Columbia is at the bottom of the West Division, with a 1-4 record.  The best team, though, may be Saskatchewan, as it has a league-best 37-point differential to go alongside its 4-1 record.  The Roughriders are at home tonight, and are favored by 4.5 points over the Elks, with first place in the West on the line. The knee-jerk reaction might be to take the underdog Elks + the points.  After all, they're 5-1, and the point spread is north of 4 points.  But be careful, as our CFL System of the Week identifies certain Class A teams that fall flat on their face as underdogs.  Consider that CFL Underdogs of more than 3 points have gone 0-8 SU/ATS since 2006 if they owned a win percentage of .820 (or better) at Game 7 forward!  And those underdogs failed to cover the spread by an average of 9.31 points per game.  Don't be surprised if the defending champion Roughriders annihilate the Elks tonight.Good luck, as always...Al McMordie

ASA's NFL MVP Thoughts

by ASA, Inc.

Wednesday, Jul 22, 2026

We've selected one of the favorites, a middle tier option, and a longer shot to win this year's MVP race...Favorite - Joe Burrow +900 Burrow has been fantastic since entering the NFL in 2020, sporting a 3:1 TD-to-INT ratio as well as the third-highest career passer rating in league history at 101.1. Yet, he is looked down upon because he cannot stay on the field, having played a full season in only three of his six years. In 2024, Burrow’s last full season, he finished fourth in MVP voting despite throwing for nearly 5,000 yards and accounting for 45 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions. That stat line is almost identical to Matthew Stafford's 2025 MVP season. Looking at 2026, Cincinnati will again have one of the best offenses in the league, with plenty of firepower for Burrow, including the highest-paid WR duo in history in Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. The Bengals need to keep their generational QB upright, but if they can do that, they have a great chance to surpass their 9.5 win total. In that case, expect nearly 5,000 yards 40+ touchdowns and single digit interceptions, which puts Joey B near the top of the MVP conversation. Mid-Tier - Jordan Love +1600Love is another young QB who has somewhat quietly had three really strong seasons to start his career. He has a solid 2.6:1 TD-to-INT ratio with a 96.8 passer rating, surprisingly ranking him 12th in NFL history. The Packers have historically been an extremely run-heavy team, ranking 27th and 30th in pass attempts the past two seasons. However, with the aging Josh Jacobs and a loaded NFC North, Love will be asked to carry more of the offensive load as he begins his fourth season as a starting QB. If Green Bay increases their passing volume to even league average, it will allow Love the opportunity to produce MVP-caliber numbers (4500+ yards, 35+ TDs, 12 or fewer INTs) provided his efficiency remains. Tucker Kraft, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Matthew Golden make up a formidable room of pass catchers that would pave the way for a longshot like Love to win. He currently is tenth in MVP odds. Longshot - Bo Nix +3000First and foremost, volume is the reason Nix has an opportunity to produce MVP numbers. As a rookie, he was sixth in total pass attempts, gaining even more trust from head coach Sean Payton in his second year, as he threw the ball more than any other QB in the NFL last season. Nix is entering his third season with the 16th-best odds to win MVP, however, not many other QBs possess the passing volume to accumulate MVP-caliber stats while playing on an elite team that can highlight their potentially stellar quarterback play. Denver won 14 games a year ago. If the Broncos can fight for the AFC West title once again while Nix becomes more efficient with his opportunities, there is value to be had here. The addition of Jaylen Waddle adds more firepower to this offense with the extra bonus being Nix’s rushing ability – nine rushing touchdowns in the past two years.

2026 Preseason College Football Poll

by Wayne Root

Tuesday, Jul 21, 2026

The 2026 College Football season is quickly approaching, and expectations are beginning to take shape across the country. Coaching changes, along with the transfer portal and NIL continue to reshape the sport. Still, a handful of programs remain at the top of the national conversation year after year. Based on past results of formulating an early college football poll, my best prediction is that this poll will flip-flop all season long. Which team will be last years Indiana University?1. Ohio StatePowered by the elite offensive trio of QB Julian Sayin, RB Bo Jackson, and WR Jeremiah Smith. There is a new offensive coordinator as Arthur Smith will likely run a more pro-style offense for Sayin. I think the best part about Ohio State, though, is that four of its offensive linemen and running back Bo Jackson returned. So, this offense could be as good as any in college football. 2. GeorgiaThe SEC still goes through Athens. Quarterback Gunnar Stockton is back, along with several other key players like center Drew Bobo and safety K.J. Bolden. Kirby Smart recruits his butt off and in those three seasons, the Bulldogs have gone 36-6. They've also won two SEC titles in that stretch. Sure, they haven't won a playoff game in that time, but they still have players. 3. OregonLocked in near the top after QB Dante Moore bypassed the NFL Draft, returning with a highly touted receiving corps. When you look at the teams that have won the last three national championships, Oregon fits the blueprint those teams followed to a tee. 4. TexasExpected to be a major playoff threat with QB Arch Manning leading the charge. Arch Manning is obviously the headliner as he enters Year 2 as the Longhorns' starting quarterback. I think he'll play really well because his play late in the season suggests that. He finished with 20 total touchdowns and just two turnovers in his final six games. 5. Penn StateThis one is a lot about the schedule. There are some teams ranked behind Penn State who have better rosters, but if you look at the schedule, the Nittany Lions should be a top-15 team. Now with Matt Campbell as its head coach, Penn State has essentially become East Iowa State. He almost brought the entire Iowa State roster with him. Campbell's going to be charged with winning big games. However, here's the thing: they don't have a ton of big games. The schedule falls in their favor, and they're going to have the most experienced quarterback in the country with Rocco Becht. I think they can make a run at 10 wins. 6. Notre Dame Boasting a loaded roster with nine of the defense's top ten tacklers returning from the previous season. This will be an offense more centered around quarterback CJ Carr, with running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price going to the NFL. 7. Oklahoma Head coach Brent Venables has the Oklahoma defense exactly where he wants it. He took over defensive playcalling duties last season for the Sooners and it worked, ranking top 10 in the country. The Sooners have four returning All-SEC players on defense, including defensive tackle David Stone, who is already generating early first-round buzz for the 2027 draft. We all know quarterback John Mateer can be really good when he's healthy as well. He was the Heisman front-runner before that injury to his hand. They just need to run the ball a bit better.8. Alabama Alabama has slowly been slipping, and we've seen that with its play on the field. Head coach Kalen DeBoer just got a contract extension, which was a bit interesting, as he heads into Year 3 at Tuscaloosa. At quarterback, the Crimson Tide have two very talented, but very inexperienced options in Austin Mack (last year's backup) and redshirt freshman Keelon Russell (a former five-star recruit). DeBoer has said he won't name a starter until the fall. Ultimately, this team’s identity still hinges on the defense and run game — areas that were once the program’s foundation under Nick Saban.9. USCUSC fixed the line of scrimmage. Lincoln Riley knew at some point they needed to improve in the trenches, and they brought back their entire starting offensive line. That was an offensive line that helped USC's run-game improve in 2025. Riley's teams have also been really good when they can run the ball. Running back Waymond Jordan was spectacular last season before he got hurt. There are some questions at wide receiver, but Riley's offenses always develop pass-catchers.10. LSUThis is the top team of my second tier, and this is a major nod to Lane Kiffin. Sure, the way he left Ole Miss was a disaster, but Kiffin can coach. LSU’s offense has the potential to be among the best in the country after an aggressive overhaul in the transfer portal. The Tigers brought in roughly 40 transfers, highlighted by quarterback Sam Leavitt.11. IndianaThe big portal addition was ex-TCU quarterback Josh Hoover. All eyes will be on him as he replaces Fernando Mendoza. He's almost a Mendoza clone, though, as Hoover was only second to Mendoza for the most run-pass option throws in college football last season. Indiana also got former Michigan State wide receiver Nick Marsh, who will line up on the outside with Charlie Becker. The offensive line and defensive should be very good, too. 12. Ole MissOle Miss had a tremendous College Football Playoff run, but the Rebels lost too much from that roster for me to put them in the top 10. QB Trinidad Chambliss was amazing, leading the Rebels to the CFP semifinal. If you have Chambliss, you're going to have a chance in any game. Kewan Lacy is also back at running back after rushing for 1,567 yards as a sophomore. I thought head coach Pete Golding did a good job in the CFP and hitting the portal hard to strengthen the defense.

Copa Libertadores Futures 2026 (Knockout Rounds)

by Amedeus Mastrangelo

Sunday, Jul 19, 2026

The Round of 16 for Copa Libertadores has been decided and is set to start on Tuesday, August 11. There were some big surprises in the group stage, but a majority of the heavy hitters are still in the competition and the knockout rounds are where the real contenders start to show up. There are a few interesting matchups in the Round of 16 with some teams who were in the same group now playing each other again, but that could also lead to some upsets with the teams being more familiar with each other. With the start of the Round of 16 approaching, it is time to see who has the best chance at lifting the trophy at this point in the competition.  To Win Outright Palmeiras +333: Palmeiras is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the best chance at lifting the trophy this season, according to the oddsmakers. Palmeiras is one of the better clubs in Brasil and they have been one of the more dominant teams in South America over the last few years. They are always a threat to win the Brasileirao and they have multiple Copa Libertadores Titles in recent years as well. They are currently leading the Brasileirao with a multi-point lead over 2nd place and they are playing with a hunger this season after winning no trophies at all last year, watching the other dominant club in the league, Flamengo, clean up everything. Palmeiras did not play great in the group stage as they actually failed to win their group which was a surprise considering how well they usually do in the group stage. They came in 2nd place to Cerro Porteno, but now they are going to get another shot at Cerro Porteno in the Round of 16 and that is going to play in their favor as they will not overlook the team they did not beat in the group stage. They have become very familiar with Cerro Porteno as a team over the last few years, playing in a Copa Libertadores group with them in years past, and this is a team that they usually dominate as well. Palmeiras had their struggles in the group stage, but they are going to bring their A-game for these knockout rounds and they are going to play much better than they did in the group stage. Palmeiras has the quality to win this whole competition as they are one of the better teams in all of South America, and they certainly have a lot of experience making deep runs in this competition as well. Palmeiras was +400 to start the tournament and they have lost some of their value from that number, but they are still the best team in this competition and there has not been a lot of value lost at this current price. Palmeiras still has a lot of value to win the competition at this price.  Flamengo +350: Flamengo is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the next best chance at lifting the trophy this season, according to the oddsmakers. Flamengo is one of the better clubs in Brasil and they are the current defending champions as well. They dominated South America last season as they are the defending Brasileirao champions as well as the defending Copa Libertadores champions. They have been on fire in their recent matches and went into the World Cup break very hot, but they did have more of a struggle to start the season and even though they are not going to be a bad team by any means, they are still poised to take a step back this season and have so far. They are currently sitting in 2nd place in the Brasileirao and still have one of the better teams in the league, but they are not going to have the same hunger this season after cleaning up last year. There are going to be more motivated teams than them who are just as talented as well. They are going to face Cruzeiro in the Round of 16 and that is a familiar matchup for them being from the same league. Cruzeiro has not been as good this season as they were last year and they struggled in the group stage as well, finishing in 2nd place, but they were still one of the better teams in the Brasileirao last season and even with Flamengo being the best team in the league, they did not win both fixtures against Cruzeiro. Cruzeiro could give them fits here and even if they get past them, it is not going to be an easy path for Flamengo by any means. Flamengo is still a very good team and is a threat to win this competition, but they have certainly taken a step back this season as they are not the same team as last year and fatigue is going to start settling in after being so dominant in both competitions last year. There are still much better options to go with considering how Flamengo is not the best team left in this competition, so there is no real value in them to repeat at this price.  Fluminense +550: Fluminense is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the next best chance at lifting the trophy this season, according to the oddsmakers. Fluminense has been a very good team in Brasil over the years and they usually find their way to the top part of the table, but they are not a dominant club like the 2 previously mentioned and they are not nearly as strong either. They have made deep runs in this competition before and they even have a title in the last few years, but they are not a team that consistently does well in this competition. They are having a great year in the Brasileirao as they are currently sitting in 3rd place, but they are still 9 points away from the league leaders and are not on the same level. They have been in great form recently and were on fire going into the World Cup break, but they have also been a very home dominant team in the league this season and that is going to be a problem as they get deeper into this competition. They have one of the better home records in the Brasileirao, but they have not been good away from home and will get themselves into trouble in those matches. Fluminense was not the dominant team in their group either, coming in 2nd place to Independiente Rivadavia, and now they have to face them again in the Round of 16, already drawing away from home and losing at home to Independiente Rivadavia in the group stage. As good as they have been in the Brasileirao this season, they have not had a great defense with 24 goals allowed in their 19 matches, and that defense is going to get them into trouble as they face stronger attacks. Fluminense does not have the quality this season to go all the way and win this competition with their inconsistencies, and they do not have an easy matchup in the Round of 16 either. There is no real value in Fluminense to win this competition at this price, especially since they were +1000 prior to the competition starting.  Cruzeiro +800: Cruzeiro is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the next best chance at lifting the trophy this season, according to the oddsmakers. Cruzeiro had a great season last year as they finished 3rd place in the Brasileirao and were leading the league for a lot of the season as well. They ended up fizzling out in the final weeks, but they have been improving as a team ever since getting promoted back to Serie A in 2023. They have taken a big step back this season though and have struggled a lot in the 1st half of the year. They are currently sitting in 13th place in the Brasileirao and they have not been much of a threat to win anything this season. They have also been more distracted by this competition, but they did not dominate the group stage either. They actually finished in 2nd place of their group to Universidad Catolica who is not a dominant team by any means. Their defense was very good in the group stage, but their attack has struggled to score goals and they are not getting an easy matchup to start the knockouts either. They are facing Flamengo in the Round of 16 who is one of the better teams in all of South America, so there is a very good chance that this Cruzeiro side does not even make it out of this 1st round. As good as their defense was in the group stage, it has actually been awful in the Brasileirao and that is going to be a problem as they face stronger attacks. Cruzeiro has already been stretched thin by this competition this season, struggling in the Brasileirao as well as the Copa Libertadores group stage, and they do not have the quality to make a deep run. This is an awful price for Cruzeiro to win this competition, especially since they are playing one of the strongest teams in the competition in the Round of 16 who are also the defending champions. There is no real value in Cruzeiro to win this competition at this price.  Corinthians +1000: Corinthians is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the next best chance at lifting the trophy this season, according to the oddsmakers. Corinthians is one of the bigger clubs in all of Brasil, but they have not acted like it over the last decade as they have not been one of the more dominant teams in the country like they should be. They last won the Brasileirao back in 2017, but it has been a decade of darkness since then. They did have a top 4 finish back in 2022, but for the most part they have been a mediocre team that usually finishes in the middle of the table. This season has been no different for them as they are currently sitting in 12th place in the Brasileirao and usually their defense is a big strength, but they have actually allowed more goals than they have scored this season. Their defense is not good enough to make a deep run in this competition and they also have a very weak attack that is going to get them into trouble against better defenses as they will struggle to score goals. They were much better in the Copa Libertadores group stage as they surprisingly won their group, but they did not dominate the group by any stretch with a 3-2-1 record and they also played in a much weaker group that did not have any heavy hitters. They are not going to have an easy path either as they are facing Rosario Central in the Round of 16 and they may not be the best team from Argentina, but they are still a very good team and are very sound defensively which will make them a tough out. It would not be shocking to see Corinthians get through the Round of 16, but they are not a very good team overall and they will eventually run into a team that is much better than they are. There is no real value in Corinthians to win this competition at this price as they are not a true contender.  Rosario Central +2000: Rosario Central is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the next best chance at lifting the trophy this season, according to the oddsmakers. Rosario Central has been a solid team in Argentina over the last few years, but they have not won many trophies and they have not been a dominant team by any means. They had a good season in the Apertura as they finished in 4th place in their group, but they fizzled out in the playoffs and have struggled in the knockout format. They ended up losing in the playoffs to River Plate who is the dominant team in their league, but River Plate did not go on to win the playoffs either. Rosario Central was also recently eliminated from Copa Argentina with a 3-0 loss to Estudiantes. They have been a very good team defensively, but they still averaged 1 goal allowed per match in the Apertura and they are in line to take a step back in this 2nd half of the season. They do not have the toughest Round of 16 matchup with Corinthians, but that is still not an easy matchup either and could be very tricky for them to get through. Rosario Central is a very good team, but they are not a dominant team in their own league and they are not even one of the best teams in that league either. They are not even the best team from Argentina still left in this competition and Argentina as a whole has certainly lost a step as a league over the last few years with their teams struggling a lot in this competition recently. There is no real value in Rosario Central to win this competition at this price as they are not a true contender.  Independiente del Valle +2500: Independiente del Valle is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the next best chance at lifting the trophy this season, according to the oddsmakers. Independiente del Valle comes from a smaller and weaker league in Ecuador, but they are still a very good team and they have been the dominant team in this league for years. There are other quality teams in their league as well and they do get challenged from time to time, but they are a team that always finds their way to the top of their own domestic league. They have dominated the league this season as well, currently sitting at the top with a 15-1-3 record which has them 12 points ahead of 2nd place, and they have been in great form recently as well. They were very good in the Copa Libertadores group stage as well, winning their group with a 4-1-1 record, and they have a lot of experience going deep in these competitions as they did win Copa Sudamericana in recent years. This is a competition that they are going to be highly motivated to win and they certainly have the quality to give some of the stronger teams in this competition fits. They have a very strong attack that can score goals and bail them out of tough spots, but they also have a very sound defense that can carry them deep in this competition as well. They are also going to have one of the weaker matchups in the Round of 16 as they are facing Tolima who does not have a lot of quality in their squad and also comes from a much weaker league as well. Independiente del Valle also creates a much tougher path for teams themselves as they play at a very high altitude in Ecuador, making it very difficult for opposing teams to dominate them on their own pitch as they have a big home advantage with the elevation. This is also a great price for them considering how it was the same at the start of the tournament, but now half of the field is gone and they have proven to be in good form by winning their group and dominating their own domestic league this season. There is some good value in Independiente del Valle to win this competition at this price as a dark horse.  RecommendationThere have been a few surprises in this competition with bigger clubs making an exit in the group stage, but most of the heavy hitters at the top are still left in this tournament. The tournament has been dominated by clubs from Brasil in recent years and the odds reflect that with the top 5 favorites all being clubs from Brasil. The winner this season will likely be another club from Brasil with the strength of those teams and the dominance of this competition over the last few years. Palmeiras at +333 is still the best option of all of those teams from Brasil as they are one of the best teams on the continent with the quality to win this competition and the motivation from not winning any trophies last season. If a team not from Brasil were to win it though, Independiente del Valle at +2500 has some good value as a very dominant team in their own domestic league who has a big elevation advantage at home and has won Copa Sudamericana in the last few seasons. Palmeiras at +333 is the best option to win this competition, followed by Independiente del Valle at +2500 as a dark horse.
