- Our 25* NFL Total of the Month is with the Carolina Panthers/Green Bay Packers over the total at 8:15 pm et.
The Green Bay Packers have played four straight games under the total, yet the return of running back Josh Jacobs should open up their offense and lead to an over tonight. They had won three games in a row before a 20-17 loss in Detroit against the Lions on Sunday. The Packers ran the ball only 19 times for 60 yards. Jacobs ran the ball 11 times for 36 yards. He has a good chance to have a better game tonight against a suspect Panthers run defense. Carolina is giving up 153 rushing yards per game on 5.2 yards per carry. If and when Green Bay runs the ball better with Jacobs tonight, that should make their play-action passing game better, from which quarterback Jordan Love is very effective. Love averages 8.7 yards per game attempt in play-action and has posted a 122 passer rating in those pass attempts. The Packers have played eight of their previous twelve games over the number when the oddsmakers installed them as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points. They have also played three of their four games over the total since the start of last season against opponents that are giving up 135 or more rushing yards per game.
Carolina comes off a 43-13 upset loss at home against Tampa Bay last week. The Buccaneers ran the ball 49 times for 258 rushing yards. The Panthers have played six of their previous eight games over the total after playing a game where they scored 14 points or less. They have played eight of their previous ten games over the total in October. Carolina is playing higher-scoring games. They have scored 25 or more points in four of their six games, and they have scored 32 or more points in three of those games with quarterback Bryce Young playing at his best in his fourth season in the league. They are averaging 26.5 points per game. Yet they are giving up 27.7 points per game. The Chicago Bears exposed this defense in Week 1 when they scored 59 points and 522 yards against them. The Panthers have played twenty-two of their previous thirty-three games over the total when the oddsmakers installed them as an underdog. Green Bay should score their share of points, dictating a higher-scoring game as Carolina tries to keep up. The pace should be fast as well. The Panthers rank third in the NFL by averaging 26.9 seconds between plays, and the Packers rank seventh by averaging 27.7 seconds per play. Play the over.
Good luck - Team Del Genio.
