- Both of these teams suffered horrendous losses last week. Troy lost as a two-touchdown favorite at home to UL Monroe. James Madison lost as a two touchdown favorite on the road at Appalachian State. Given JMU's loss probably will end up costing them a return to the College Football Playoff, I think they are the ones more likely to be in "letdown" mode come Thursday night. So it makes more sense to fade them. Plus, the Dukes are also being asked to lay nearly three touchdowns here. This is a team that's rolled up some big margins of victory so far. But -14.5 is the previous high watermark for what they've had to lay against any FBS opponent. Last year, Troy covered here as a 24.5-point favorite, pretty easily.
