- Analysis
- The Braves are coming into this game with an 88-62 record this season and they have been playing in some high scoring games recently. They have seen 11+ runs total in each of their last 3 games and their offense has been heating up in these. They have scored 6+ runs in 2 of their last 3 games, but their pitching has not been good as they have allowed 5+ runs in 2 of their last 3 as well as 4 of their last 6 games. They are going up against a Cubs team that is 83-67 this season and they have also been playing in some high scoring games recently. They have seen 14+ runs total in 2 of their last 4 games and have seen 7+ runs total in all 4 of those. Their offense struggled in their last 2 games, but they have one of the better offenses in the league this year and will be pushing to stay in this Wild Card race with their recent slump. Their pitching has also struggled all season though as they do not have a strong rotation and their bullpen has also been very bad. David Peterson is starting for the Cubs in this game and he is 7-8 with a 5.28 ERA this season. He has actually been much better since getting traded to the Cubs and he has been great in his recent starts as well, but his last start at home he allowed 6 earned runs in less than 4 innings and when he does have a bad start, he usually gets blown up. The Braves have a very good offense that has been heating up in their last series and he has not been good against the Braves in his career either, going 3-5 with a 5.54 ERA in 14 career starts and allowing 11 earned runs in 16 innings pitched against them last season alone. Reynaldo López is starting for the Braves in this game and he is 4-4 with a 4.13 ERA this season. He has not been good recently as he has allowed 4+ earned runs in 3 of his last 4 starts and he has only pitched once since coming back from his injury, allowing 6 earned runs in less than 5 innings against the Rays. He has not pitched well since coming back and the Cubs have one of the better offenses in the league that is going to get to him for some runs here. Between these two sides, there will be enough runs in this game to push it over the total.
