Analysis: The Chiefs are coming off their worst season in quite some time. They missed the playoffs with a 6-11 SU record and to add injury to insult, QB Patrick Mahomes went down with an ACL injury. Mahomes is back and ready for this Week 1 divisional matchup against last season’s AFC West Champions, the Broncos, who were 14-3 and made the Conference Championship Game. But we see the Broncos as a team that probably takes a bit of a step back in 2026. That step back should start here with a loss in Arrowhead on Monday Night Football. While the Chiefs haven’t been a good team to bet on, going back to the end of the 2024 season, now they’re a pretty short favorite. It’s been rare to find Mahomes as such a short home favorite. Andy Reid has also won 24 of his last 30 September games. New running back for KC in Kenneth Walker III, who should take some of the pressure off Mahomes as he works his way back from the injury. Remember that Denver QB Bo Nix is also coming off an injury (ankle) that kept him out of the AFC Championship Game.
