- Total of the Week. My selection is on the 'under' between Denver and Kansas City at 8:15 pm et on Monday.
It's clear that the Chiefs are unsure what exactly they'll be able to get out of QB Patrick Mahomes as he returns from another serious injury. They added RB Kenneth Walker and also made moves to bolster their defense in the offseason. Here in Week 1 they'll be tested right away as they host a Broncos team that has Super Bowl aspirations. I do like the make-up of the Denver offense (it also has a quarterback returning from a significant injury in Bo Nix) but this is undoubtedly a difficult test on the road against a divisional opponent that knows it well. Meanwhile, the Broncos defense returns virtually all of the key pieces that have made it one of the toughest in the league in recent years. I expect Denver to gameplan aggressively against Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. It has held Kansas City to fewer than 20 points in six straight meetings in this series. Take the under (10*).
