Off that ugly 16-3 road loss to the Giants and with a day of rest, the Brewers will stroll into Anaheim and pound the Halos. Milwaukee's advantage over Chicago in the NL Central is down to just 5.5-games and manager Pat Murphy will make sure his troops don't lose to the worst team in the American League.
Rookie left-hander Shane Drohan will take the bump for the visitors. In the month of July, No. 55 made five starts and pitched well allowing only 14 earned runs and 28 hits in 30.0 innings of work. Shane whiffed 30 and walked six on his way to a 2-2 record with a 4.20 ERA. On the season, with 21 career trips to the mound to his credit including 11 official starts, Drohan was dinked for 32 earned runs and 75 hits in 82.0 frames. That shakes down to a decent 5-4 mark with a solid 3.51 ERA.
Young righty Ryan Johnson will go for the home team. Facing the Giants, Tigers, Twins, and Red Sox in four July starts, No. 32 was hammered for 14 earned runs and 19 hits in 17.1 innings. Ryan struck out 16 and walked eight on his way to a 1-2 record with a dismal 7.27 ERA. Even worse, in his two-year career with the Halos covering 25 appearances and eight starts, Johnson was blasted for 46 earned runs and 71 hits in 56.1 frames. That's bad enough for a 3-6 mark with a horrible 7.35 ERA.
Several strong team trends back this power wager. Milwaukee has tasted victory in 261 of its last 444 overall, 102 of its last 180 when coming off a loss, 121 of its last 215 as a guest, and 174 of its last 278 when priced as a favorite. Meanwhile, on the other side of the park, Los Angeles has fallen in 147 of its last 253 when coming off a loss, 205 of its last 344 when priced as an underdog, and 34 of its last 52 when rolling with a day of rest.
The Brewers are the second-best team in the National League and they will have no issues posted crooked numbers against this struggling Angels bunch. Take Milwaukee with Drohan. Thanks, and best of luck, Tom.
