Analysis
Kansas City pitching has allowed four or fewer runs in 10 straight games. Michael Wacha is a candidate to help maintain that streak even as the Royals continue to collect losses in a very disappointing season. Wacha has a 3.60 ERA and has been a steady reliable option now for five straight seasons after some bumps in the road in his career from 2019-2021. As a veteran that has spent a lot of time in the NL, Wacha has experience at Coors Field with adequate numbers while the Kansas City bullpen has improved numbers since the All-Star Break including a 3.94 ERA in the past 10 games. Colorado is back home after five straight road games and the Rockies have lost seven of the past nine games with seven or more runs allowed in seven of those games. Tomoyuki Sugano has 10 wins but a 5.46 FIP and a 5.2 K/9. Sugano has allowed 20 home runs in 18 starts as he is a risky option in every matchup. A recent run of decent results has also coincided with pitching on the road in six of his last nine outings since late May. These are struggling teams that could see changes in the near future with next week’s trade deadline on the horizon but as it stands the Royals have a better pitching set-up tonight even without the Thursday off-day Colorado enjoyed as Noah Cameron gave Kansas City eight innings yesterday before a deflating ending for the Royals with no-hit bid transforming into a walk-off grand slam defeat. Thank you for playing with Nelly’s and Best of Luck.
