- Analysis
- The Dodgers have won each of its four series since the All-Star Break, though without a sweep. Los Angeles has been held to four or fewer runs in four of its past six games and the offense has struggled vs. left-handed pitching despite a 19-12 season record vs. southpaw starters. Los Angeles is batting just .219 with 3.0 runs per nine in the past 10 games vs. left-handed pitching. The Dodgers won 6-2 last night in Seattle with strong scoring efficiency thanks to two home runs but it was a game that required five pitchers to throw even with a quick early lead with a 5-0 head start through four innings. Boston is catching an appealing price to start this series after winning three of four in Sacramento. Since the managerial change Boston is 47-34 for Chad Tracy while 25-5 in the past 30 games. Ranger Suarez has only four wins in 18 starts in his first season with the Red Sox, but he has a 3.02 ERA and a 2.51 FIP. He consistently has been one of the toughest MLB starters to hit home runs against in the past five years and he is on pace for a career high K/9. Suarez also has good numbers in eight regular season appearances vs. the Dodgers with a 3.64 ERA and he picked up an NLDS win at Dodger Stadium last October for the Phillies. The pitching plan for the Dodgers is unclear for Friday. This would be Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s turn in the rotation, but Shohei Ohtani may be considered to return after a layoff from the mound with his knee issue. Edgardo Henriquez could also open this game, though he did make an appearance last night. The Dodgers pitching staff however it plays out tonight, is capable of a dominant performance, but this pricing is difficult to justify against a Red Sox team with fantastic recent bullpen splits compared to recent struggles for the Dodgers in the late innings.
