Analysis
The Nationals are coming into this game with a 55-55 record this season and they have not been playing well in their recent games. They have lost 3 of their last 4 games now, but they lost their last series to the Blue Jays at home and have been much better on the road this season at 32-21. They also have one of the better offenses in the league this season and will be hungry to bounce back after a close 5-4 loss to open up this series. They are going up against a Braves team that is 64-45 this season and they have been playing better recently. They have won their last 2 straight as well as 3 of their last 5 games, but they also have 3 losses in their last 6 games and have been very inconsistent. Their offense has also been awful in their recent games as they have scored 3 runs or less in 5 of their last 6 games now. Foster Griffin is starting for the Nationals in this game and he is 12-2 with a 2.76 ERA this season. He has been great in his recent starts as he has allowed just 1 earned run or less in 8 of his last 9 starts and he has not allowed more than 3 earned runs in any of those. He has been very good on the road recently as well, allowing just 1 earned run or less in each of his last 5 as well as 7 of his last 8 road starts. He is also 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 2 career starts against the Braves, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in this ballpark, and both of those starts were this season as he allowed 3 earned runs total in 12 innings pitched against them. Bryce Elder is starting for the Braves in this game and he is 6-6 with a 3.96 ERA this season. He has been much better in his last 2 starts, but prior to those he was struggling a lot as he allowed 4+ runs in 4 straight starts. He has been better at home this season and was great in his last start there, but prior to that good start at home he did allow 8 earned runs in 6 innings pitched there. Elder has still been very inconsistent in his recent starts and he is going to struggle more against this Nats offense that has been one of the better offenses in the league all season. The Nats have also been pitching better recently and Griffin is going to be able to go deep in this game against a struggling Braves offense, taking some stress off of the bullpen. The Nationals will win this game.
