Copa Sudamericana Futures 2026 (Knockout Rounds)

The Copa Sudamericana Play-Off Round has concluded and the Round of 16 is now set. The field is no longer the same as the start of the tournament with the 2nd place finishers from the group stage playing against the 3rd place finishers from the Copa Libertadores group stage for the right to play in the Copa Sudamericana Round of 16. Many of the teams left in the tournament started in Copa Sudamericana, but there are also some new faces now that could have a chance to win this title as well. With the Round of 16 set to start on Tuesday, August 11, it is time to see who has the best chance at taking home the 2026 Copa Sudamericana Title. 

Boca Juniors +550: Boca Juniors is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the best chance at taking home the Copa Sudamericana Title this year, according to the oddsmakers. Boca Juniors is one of the biggest clubs in all of Argentina and they always make themselves a threat in these competitions, but they have had a similar problem as River Plate in recent years. They have been very good in their own domestic league, but they have not dominated the league year in and year out, not winning many trophies either. They are coming off of a great 1st part of their season as they finished in 2nd place of their group in the Apertura with an 8-6-2 record, scoring 22 goals and allowing 9 goals in their 16 league matches, but that still did not translate to success. They ended the Apertura in awful form, fizzling out of the playoffs at home, and they are not off to a great start in the Clausura either. They are also a drop-down team in this competition as they started the year in Copa Libertadores and finished 3rd in their group with a 2-1-3 record, scoring 6 goals and allowing 5 goals in their 6 matches while also finishing behind Cruzeiro and Universidad Catolica who are not elite teams. They did not start in this competition and this is not the desired competition that they wanted to win, so they are still going to have some disappointment from getting kicked out of Copa Libertadores and their motivation here will be questionable as well. They barely advanced in the play-off round as well, drawing 1-1 on aggregate and winning in penalties which could have gone either way. Boca Juniors continues to fall below the bar in every competition they play in and with the strength of their league compared to the Brasileirao, there are much better options to go with than an inconsistent team from Argentina that might not have the motivation to do well in this tournament. There is no real value in Boca Juniors at this price as the favorite. 

Sao Paulo +600: Sao Paulo is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the next best chance at taking home the Copa Sudamericana Title this year, according to the oddsmakers. Sao Paulo is listed as the best Brasilian club left in the competition, but that is not the case. They were very good in the group stage as they won their group with a 3-3-0 record. They were one of the few teams in the competition to not lose a match at all in the group stage and their defense was great as they only allowed 1 goal in their 6 matches, but they also scored 6 goals in 6 matches and their attack has been struggling to find the net. They certainly have the ability to grind out matches with that good defense, but they have been struggling a lot in their own domestic league. They are currently sitting in 12th place at 7-5-8 and they have had a big problem playing away from home this season. Sao Paulo certainly has the quality to make a deep run in this competition, but they are not the best option with the form they have been in. They have also lost a lot of their value as they were +1100 prior to the tournament starting and they are now the 2nd favorite in the competition and the highest rated club from Brasil which is not the case. Sao Paulo still has the quality and the defense to make a deep run here, but the value is gone at this price with better options from their own league. 

River Plate +650: River Plate is coming into the Round of 16 with the next best chance at taking home the Copa Sudamericana Title this year, according to the oddsmakers. River Plate is one of the bigger clubs in all of Argentina and they are always a threat in any competition they play in, but recently they have been struggling a lot. They have not been the dominant team in their own domestic league over the years, despite having one of the best squads year in and year out. They had a chance to finally win a trophy, but they squandered their opportunity in the Apertura playoffs. They still have the quality to be the best in this tournament and win it all, but they are not a team that can be trusted with the way they have been struggling. There are some very good teams from Brasil left in the competition as well, so they are not the clear cut best team in it. They finished the group stage at the top of their group with a 4-2-0 record, scoring 9 goals and allowing 3 goals in their 6 matches. They were also +900 to start the tournament, so they have lost a lot of value at this price and have not played like a team that deserves to be the top 3 favorites now. River Plate can certainly win this competition, but a lot of the value is gone at this price and this is not a competition that they are going to be focused on if they have a chance to win their league late in the year. River Plate is not the best option to win this competition anymore and a lot of the value is gone at this price. 

Santos +700: Santos is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the next best chance at taking home the Copa Sudamericana Title this year, according to the oddsmakers. Santos is one of the highest rated Brasilian clubs in this tournament, but they are not a very good team this season and they have struggled in the Brasileirao for years. They are currently sitting in 14th place with a 5-7-8 record in the Brasileirao and they barely qualified for Copa Sudamericana last season, finishing in 12th place in the league. They do not have a good defense either, allowing 33 goals in their 20 league matches this season with a -4 goal differential as well. They were not very good in the group stage either, finishing in 2nd place of their group with a 1-4-1 record, scoring 8 goals and allowing 6 goals in their 6 matches. They had to play in the play-off round as well, winning both legs against UCV and beating them 8-3 on aggregate, but UCV is not a quality team and they also play in a much weaker domestic league. Santos has been in better form recently, but this is not a team that is built to go deep in this competition and there are plenty of teams that they can run into who are better than they are. Their defense is also going to be a big problem the deeper they get into this competition and will be a liability for them. Santos is not even a top half of the table kind of team in the Brasileirao, so they have no business being listed as one of the better teams in this tournament. There is no real value in Santos to win this competition at this price as they are not a true contender. 

Atletico Mineiro +700: Atletico Mineiro is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the next best chance at taking home the Copa Sudamericana Title this year, according to the oddsmakers. Atletico Mineiro has been in much better form recently, but they are also very inconsistent in these competitions. They are currently sitting in 8th place in the Brasileirao with an 8-4-8 record this season, scoring 25 goals and allowing 25 goals in their 20 matches so far. They are usually a top half of the table kind of team, but their inconsistencies keep them from being a top team in the league year in and year out. They finished at the top of their group in the group stage, but once again they did it with a mediocre effort, finishing 3-1-2 with 8 goals scored and 6 goals allowed in their 6 matches. They have also lost a lot of the quality they had which made them compete at a high level in their own league. They still have the quality to make a deep run as they can be a very tricky team to beat, but their defense is nothing special and their attack will struggle to find the net against better defenses. They are certainly more of a contender than some of the other teams left in this competition, but they have not done anything this season in any of their competitions to show that they deserve to be considered a threat. They have actually gained value as they started this tournament as the +550 favorite, but even at this better price, there are better options to go with. Atletico Mineiro certainly has a lot more value at this price, but they are not a team worth trusting to make a deep run. 

Botafogo +1000: Botafogo is coming into the Round of 16 as the team with the next best chance at taking home the Copa Sudamericana Title this year, according to the oddsmakers. Botafogo is a team that has been dominant in the Brasileirao over the last few years now and they even have a Copa Libertadores Title under their belt. They were in line to take a step back this season as they did lose some of their quality and they ended up having a poor start to the season as well, but recently they have been turning things around. They are currently sitting in 7th place of the Brasileirao with an 8-5-7 record and they have been in much better form in recent matches. Their defense has not been good this season, but they have scored 34 goals in their 20 league matches and have one of the better attacks in the competition. They also dominated the group stage as they won their group with a 5-1-0 record, being one of the few teams in the competition to not lose a match in the group stage. Their defense was better as they only allowed 5 goals in their 6 matches, but their attack was on fire still with 15 goals scored in those 6 matches. Botafogo has proven themselves to be a threat with their dominance in the group stage and they are showing that this is still a competition that they are going to be focused on. Winning this competition would also be a great way for them to salvage the season and get themselves back in Copa Libertadores despite having a down year. Botafogo has certainly taken a step back this season, but they have proven to still be one of the better teams in the Brasileirao and they are only getting better as the season goes on. Botafogo has a real chance to win this tournament now with one of the better squads in the competition as a whole. They were also +1000 to start the tournament and they have not lost any value despite being the best team in the group stage in a tougher group as well. Botafogo at +1000 has some good value to win the competition at this price. 

This competition is riddled with clubs from Brasil still left in the tournament and with the strength of the Brasileirao compared to the rest of South America, the winner will likely be a club from Brasil. There are some solid options to go with and a team like Sao Paulo who is the highest rated club from Brasil does have the quality to make a deep run here, but they were a much better price to start the tournament and the value is gone now. River Plate is another team that still has the quality to make a deep run, but they have been very inconsistent throughout the season and have also lost a lot of their value from the start of the tournament. With the current odds, Botafogo at +1000 is the best option to go with as they are an experienced team with a Copa Libertadores Title under their belt in recent years and even with them taking a step back this season, they are still one of the better teams in all of Brasil. Botafogo at +1000 is the best option to go with to win the 2026 Copa Sudamericana Title.
